Calling all wine & cheese lovers! Join Master Sommelier Alpana Singh for a tasting and lecture of six wines paired with select cheese from around the world. Learn the basics of cheese and how to to get the most out of enjoying it with wine at home. A portion of the tasting will be seated and guided and then afterwards guests will be welcome to mingle and enjoy the evening at their leisure. Lecture will begin promptly at 6:15 pm.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Oakton Elementary School PTA. Oakton Elementary School located on the south end of Evanston. Oakton’s mission is to educate each child through their own talents and gifts to pursue academic excellence and become socially responsible. Oakton is unique in that 71% the students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Nine percent of the students are registered as homeless and the student mobility rate is 13%. Oakton is proud to note that among all of these challenges, 95% of students attend school every day. The Oakton PTA works hard to support the staff and students through fundraising efforts that provide enrichment and scholarships for students. These scholarships help students attend camp, participate in sports and clubs, and obtain eye glasses. In comparison to other schools within Evanston, the Oakton’s PTA raises a significantly lower amount of money to other schools within the community. This limits the number of students who receive help in a school who has a large need for these supports that are typically provided by the PTA.
